About Congregation

The Society of Jesus Mary Joseph (JMJ) was founded by Rev. Fr. Mathias Wolff S.J in the Netherlands in 1822 for the emancipation of the Dutch people during the period of French Revolution. Gradually it spread to many countries in the world.

In India, the JMJ arrived in the year 1904. The founder gave the Congregation ‘Continually Adoptable Availability as its Characteristic.’ Conscious of the mandate of the founder, a Sister of the Congregation of JMJ ought to have firm solidarity with the world, and carry the four corners of the world in her heart, and be ready to go there, where the need is great.

Today in many states in India, the JMJ sisters run Schools, Colleges of various kind, training centers, well equipped hospitals, home for the homeless, Aged, terminally ill, conduct health camps, courses having job opportunities. Our Congregation in India functions in four provinces (Administrative units) of Guntur, Bangalore, Raipur, and Hyderabad. And Kurnool comes within Hyderabad Province.

Sacred Heart Convent is situated on the banks of River Tungabhadra and River Handri. It was established in the year 1913. The Main aim of the Society is to care for the girl child and to bring up to the heights of the Society. Later This Society registered with different charitable units/departments serving the poor and needy of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. We have been working for the upliftment of the down trodden of the society in the field of education, health care, care of orphans, street children, HIV AIDS, small lively hood, and women empowerment programs.

About Hospital

St. Theresa General Hospital, Kurnool, a mission hospital popularly known as ‘Gosha Hospital’, is a non-profitable voluntary Health Care Institution, started in the year 1924, as a “Mother and Child Clinic”. The hospital is owned and managed by sisters of Jesus Mary Joseph (JMJ). It is established in the year 1917 with small dispensary with 25 beds with minimum facilities to provide basic health care to the people of Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

As the mortality rate of the women during the time of delivery was high, much care was taken by the members to be available for people in order to reduce the mortality rate of the mother and child. The management of St. Theresa’s Hospital popularly known as Gosha Hospital took care to provide best health care for the Obstetric and Gynae, Pediatric and Neonatal patients. It had progressed rapidly caring for all the patients in need as it was only one charitable & caring hospital other than the Government Hospital.

Now it has grown into 75 bedded Hospital with its own latest and well-equipped facilities like good Operation Theaters, Lab, and Pharmacy etc. Many doctors bring their patients to our hospital for Surgeries. We have 24 X 7 Ambulance services at an affordable cost. We provide good nursing care and maintain a clean and homely atmosphere in the hospital with minimum cost.

Following the footsteps of Jesus, the Devine healer, our Mission is:

  • To bring wholeness to the broken humanity through solidarity and caring services.
  • To serve the multitude of the marginalized people especially women, children and the aged in order to lead them towards fulness of life.
